LILLEE STAR

How it became for me to be here...

I started out in Permaculture in the UK in 2003, the passion and inspiration I got from doing my PDC really propelled me into a new life of diverse discovery around the world.

I landed in Aotearoa at the end of 2009 and over the following years realised that I wanted to make this place home. I have been involved with the Permaculture in New Zealand organisation and community since 2014 and been sitting on their PiNZ council from 2017. Each year my involvement and dedication gets stronger and the connection with the people deeper and more elaborate. These last few years have brought about a lot of learning, friendships and connections across NZ and a huge ability to be the change that I see is needed for myself and the planet and community I live in.

Locally I have been involved with the Harbour Co-op, Christchurch Food Forest Collective, and the Food Resilience Network, I was a member of the design & consulting team for the Ōtakaro Orchard in the CBD.  From my involvement in these 2 projects I gained the understanding that there was a big need for community-based learning opportunities to be able to engage and empower ourself, as a community with the knowledge and skills needed to transform our own lifes that will then radiates out into the community. Each party of the city is in need of its own community food-hub to bring food security by the the hands of the local people and restoring food sovereignty.

My deep interest is in woodland management and the right livelihood that we can have within it.

I am also exploring social permaculture, our philosophy and cultural changes we experience through seasonal living. I am also, slowly! building a tiny house which is a huge learning and act of patience as I struggle to manage my time and priority list. These topics are my focal point of learning and researching to create a broader perspective of how I can alter my relationship and interaction with nature without the degrading or destruction of our environment.
