About the event

Join Us at Hassals Lane for the first session on Sat, from here we will carpool and drive out to Pegion Bay to visit Koru Kai and spend the rest of the day learning about growing soil through varrrying compost methods.

SATURDAY

8:30 - 10:00 Design Elements

Analysis and Obatain a Yeild, are the themes for this session.

12:30 - 4:30   Growing Soil

Why composting well matters - Manuring & Nutrient Recycling

Finding what works for your context and practical problem solving

Compost - Hot & Cold; Slow Compost (sawdust path, leaf mould); In situ; Hügelbeet /Hügelkultur mounds; Vermiculture,

Soil Amendments - EM, Bokashi, Liquid manures, Green manures, Biochar

Making Biocomplete Compost

SUNDAY

8:30 - 10:30 Nursery Systems

Flower and plant Anatomy and the Importance of Pollination; Seed Saving; Making Potting Mix; Propagation & Transplanting; Growing in Greenhouses & Polytunnels.

11:00 - 12:00 Pests & Diseases

aka Supporting Community Bugs, bees, etc. ; Pest & Disease life cycles; Natural predators; Interaction for balancing for plant health.

1:00 - 3:00 Edible Garden Systems

Planting and different growing techniques - Wicking beds, Raised beds,  Containers, Sheet mulching, No-dig gardens. Companion Planting & Garden Guilds, Plant Succession; Raised Beds; Crop Rotation, Interplanting.

3:15 - 4:00 Round-Up Session

Refreshments:

We will provide morning and afternoon teas and snacks .

Lunches are generally potluck style, provided and shared by participants, though you are not expected to share food, especially those with specific food requirements.

We do cater for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets.

Each Module Costs $220 - Please register below and we will get back to you about space availability on each of the modules and send through the payment details.

Refund:

If you can't attend the weekend, please get in touch to let us know, and a full refund will be given.

Please give plenty of notice to allow anyone on the waiting list to attend instead.

Non attendance and notices post 48 hrs before each module event, though you can transfer your ticket cost to a future module for a small admin fee.
